Nebraska Federated Music
Club offers the following scholarships to federated members:
Summer Music
Camp Scholarship - not available in 2008
The Summer Music Camp Scholarship is
an annual $500 scholarship divided among financially deserving students who
have studied at least twelve months with a Nebraska Federation of Music
Clubs teacher. Applications require teacher evaluation, a student
letter and parent letter. A committee chooses the recipient(s).
In the event that no Summer Music
Camp Scholarship is awarded, the scholarship is open to Nebraska Federation
of Music Clubs teachers who have been Federated in Nebraska at least twelve
months and who are registered for summer music classes. The teacher
must write a letter describing the course of study and explaining financial
need. A committee chooses the recipient(s). The deadline is May
1.

Teacher Music Education

NATIONAL MUSIC WEEK ESSAY CONTEST
2008 Theme: Music ... A Sound Foundation
for Life
2009 Theme: Music ... Poetry of the Heart
National
Music Week is celebrated each year during the first full week in May (first
Sunday through the second Sunday). The purpose of the week is to make the
public aware of the importance of all forms of music in our lives and to
encourage participation in the celebration either as a performer or
listener.
Awards:
An award of $50.00 from the Agnes Fowler
Endowment will be presented in each state in which a winner is
declared. An Award of Merit will be presented to each winner’s
teacher.
Essay Rules:

Contest open to 7-12 grade students.

Essay must be typed and no longer than 500
words.

Essay is judged on content, neatness and
legibility.

Membership in NFMC is NOT required to
enter.

State winners are ineligible to re-enter.

The essays become the property of the NFMC

NEBRASKA STATE MUSIC WEEK ESSAY CONTEST

2008 Theme: A
Sound Foundation for Life
National Music Week is
celebrated each year during the first full week in May (first Sunday through
the second Sunday). The purpose of the week is to make the public aware of
the importance of all forms of music in our lives and to encourage
participation in the celebration either as a performer or listener.
This contest is open to all music and non-music students.
- Length of Essay: 250 words
- All Essays must be typed
- Essays will be judged on neatness,
legibility, and content
The award is $25.00.
The essay must be postmarked February 1. Be
sure to include the following information: Name, School (including address
and principal name), Grade, Age, Address, Phone number, Music Teachers Name
(if applicable).

JOYCE WALSH
JUNIOR DISABILITY AWARDS
The Junior Award for the
Handicapped was established in 1983 as the official project of the Junior
Division under the leadership of Joyce Walsh, Junior Counselor. The annual
competition is open to any Junior instrumentalist or vocalist who is
mentally or physically disabled. In 2001, the awards were renamed the Joyce
Walsh Disability Awards.
The first place winner of the competition
will receive an award of $2,000 and the second place winner will receive
$1,500 for the purpose of musical study. Former first place winners of the
award are not eligible to compete. In addition, three $500 instrument/ vocal
awards will be given in each of the four regions.
REQUIREMENTS
- Applicant must have reached 12th
birthday, but not 19th, by March 1 of the audition year.
- Applicant must send a completed
application blank (JR 16-1) to the chairman, to be received by February
1 of the application year. The JR 16-1 form may be downloaded from the
web site: www.nfmc-music.org.
- Applicants shall send a cassette tape,
not to exceed 10 minutes, to the chairman, to be received by March 1 of
the application year.
- Applicant must be a member of the
National Federation of Music Clubs either through group membership or
Individual Junior Special Membership. The Junior Special Membership is
$12.00. Make check payable to the National Federation of Music Clubs.
- Applicant must include a letter of
recommendation from teacher, tutor, or clergy.
- Applicant must include a letter from a
medical doctor stating the nature and duration of the mental or physical
disability.
